Rounded up in Mysore, India's famous wild elephant drive, a pint-size pachyderm splashes through a stream between two adults, all destined for domestication.

BRAIN

Scientists induce out-of-body-like experiences

Using virtual reality goggles to mix up the sensory signals reaching the brain, scientists have induced out-of-body-like experiences in healthy people, suggesting a scientific explanation for a phenomenon often thought to be a figment of the imagination.

This will appeal to a lot of those who have experienced those phenomena and couldn't really understand it.

Dancing for your memory

Dancing reduced the risk of dementia by 76 percent, while reading reduced that risk by only 35 percent. Dancing integrates several brain functions at once, increasing connectivity in brain paths. It simultaneously involves physical movement as well as musical, emotional and rational (rapid, complex decision making) processes. More frequent dancing produced the highest dementia prevention rates.

Oh, oh, I feel like dancin'

Lyrics to song by Leo Sayer

Oh, Oh Oh, Oh, Oh Oh
You've got a cute way of talking
You've got the better of me
Just snap your fingers and I'm walking
Like a dog hanging on your lead

I'm in the spin you know
Shaking on a string you know

You make me feel like dancing
I wanna dance the night away
You make me feel like dancing
I gonna dance the night away
You make me feel like dancing
I feel like dancing, oh, dancing, oh,
Dance the night away
I feel like dancing, oh, dancing,
Owwwwww

Quarter to four in the morning
I ain't feeling tired, no, no, no, no, no
Just hold me tight
And leave on the light '
Cause I don't wanna go home

You put a spell on me
Right when you walked into me

You make me feel like dancing
I wanna dance the night away
You make me feel like dancing
I gonna dance the night away
You make me feel like dancing
I feel like dancing, oh, dancing, oh
Dance the night away, yeah
I feel like dancing, oh, dancing, oh
Dance the night away
I feel like dancing, oh, dancing, oh
Dance the night away, yeah
I feel like dancing, dancing
Owwww

Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo ......

And if you'll let me stay
We'll dance our lives away

You make me feel like dancing
I wanna dance my life away
You make me feel like dancing
I wanna dance my life away
You make me feel like dancing
I wanna dance my life away
You make me feel like dancing
I wanna dance my life away

Who remembers that song?

A 2003 study found dancing was by far the most effective brain-saving leisure activity for seniors. That includes golf, bicycling and swimming, which didn't prevent dementia at all, as well as activities like playing cards, board games, crossword puzzles and reading.

Mental gymnastics that could help you fight Alzheimer's

From the UK, comes a report on the scientific study that use of computer brain games can help stave off mental decline.

This opinion comes from an expert and is well illustrated so I am providing the link.

CC. any relation to Sisi?

Oh, the song, you mean elephant walk?.

That was great rhythm.

I'm in love with dance too, so that finding thrilled me to bits, but I can't say it surprised me.

Lovely to see you, as always.

Hi katyzzz. I read that article on the out-of-body research. Fascinating stuff, and further evidence that the popular explanations (i.e. those involving some sort of mystical experince) are not always the best ones.

As for dancing, it may be good for my brain, but watching me dance is bad for other people's eyes!

Tracy, shining comment, thank you.

Winston, with you all the way except for the dancing bit, you do the dancing, let them worry about their eyes. Dance with your wife around the kitchen, she'll love you for it, if you get my drift, subtle, aren't I?

HI katyzzz (I couldn't log in)

Yes, I agree that dancing is good for the soul and a great way to shake off angst as well as celebrate happiness.

Hi Katyzzz,

Dancing is good for the soul, no doubts and by strange coincidence two of the words in your title were in my daughter's French lesson, yesterday... and Elephant was one of them.

She loved the pic. and even remembered to pronounce it properly.

I've been out of my body all week, following an emotional detox workshop... I'm hoping to 'land' again soon.

Hope you got to see the moon last night?

Lilla ...

Anon, great comment thank you.

Lilla, Strange how things happen, glad it gave your daughter a buzz, missed the moon, they always tell us after, not before, I saw it on the tele this morning, fascinating, stay in that body of yours.

I love to boogie, on the disco ride?

I love ALL dance, well not the pole dancing variety, but my very great love is ballet.

Apparently does more than anything else for the brain...yeaaahhh!

Nice to see you Mis, and bring back those memories.
