Computer music for elderly - brain study

A performing arts charter school in western Pennsylvania is teaming up with researchers to determine whether helping older people make music using computer software will increase the brain function of people at risk for Alzheimer's disease.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ( http://bit.ly/tCJw8F) reports that the Yamaha Music and Wellness Institute in Meadville got the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School in Beaver County involved with the study involving researchers from the Cleveland Clinic and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Students from the school will spend two days each week in January and February teaching older people with mild brain impairments how to use software to compose music. The patients will then be studied to determine whether the instruction has improved their brain function.
