Olympic torch on Everest
May 8th 2008 07:55
May 8 - Chinese climbers carried the Olympic flame to the summit of Mount Everest on Thursday morning.
The moment was seen by China as the defining moment for the torch relay ahead of the Beijing Games in August.
Ethnic Tibetan climber Norbu Zhambu lit the torch at 4 meters short of the 8,848-metre peak, and the torch reached the summit at 9:18 am local time after climbers hiked for 5 hours.
