You don't need to be old to need your memory, and especially when you are a student and many students will know themselves that they have less than perfect recall.
From Really Long Link comes the following pointers for getting more from your efforts:
1. Review small bits of information on a the topic I am studying on a regular basis (hourly or daily or weekly habits) via note cards or Post-it® notes (tactal, visual) and review aloud (audio) to reinforce said information.
2. Mind-map new information in order to associate or link it with related topics or tasks.
3. Eliminate distractions as I learn and study new topics or learn new tasks.
4. Hyper-focus (if even only for 15-minutes) upon the topic or task at hand.
5. Separate similiar topics so as not to “blend” principles in my head.
6. Divide and conquer! When I am learning new material, working on a big project, doing something I have procrastinated about …
7. Find like-minded people to discuss/teach specific topics or tasks in order to imprint via repetition. (And learn from their habits and techniques!)
8. Use it or lose it! Review after study via Steps 1-5. (Especially in the case of new information via conversations or meetings.)
And these are helpful before and after processing information …
9. Aerobic exercise
10. Recreational time!
Well that should give everyone something to think about, we all need to remember things and these tricks should help.
