Canine cancer sniffer cloned

Jun. 16 - South Korean scientists show four pups they say have been cloned from a dog credited with detecting cancer in humans.

The scientists are claiming a world first in cloning four puppies at the same time from a Japanese Labrador retriever thought to have a well-honed sense of smell to spot cancer.


They are also hoping the pups have inherited the same ability.

I watched a doco on Discovery a few months back on the cancer-sniffing dogs -- was incredible, and it wasn't just the pedigree that had that special sense of smell.

Well, in theory, Lara, the clone should be an exact replica of its mother with the required sniffing skills, let's hope they have and can identify cancer before other methods currently available.
