Brain tricks and a good belly laugh.

In considering what is good for the brain and avoiding memory problems later and for keeping Alzheimer's at bay there are always the few odd extra bits added along the way.
Although many have some scientific basis, many propose links that are suggested by such research rather than having a basis in research itself.
Some occur so frequently as to have substance, others show a lateral diversion.
So here are some of those 'truths' for you to take on or reject along with what you already know.
1. 6 tablespoons of curry or dark mustard a week
2. Teach.
3. 10 tablespoons of tomato sauce with olive oil but no added sugar a week has great anti-inflammatory benefits and it adds huge amounts of polyphenols into the system. Polyphenols are the natural substances in vegetables that make them powerful disease fighters. You can’t take enough vitamin C and E to make any real difference in your health or mental well being, but eating fresh vegetables and fruits makes a measurable difference in brain activity and your immune system.
4. Laughing improves memory and creates more pathways in the brain. The more pathways you have, the more you can lose before becoming senile. 40 studies to support this one
5. Drink Coffee. No sugar or cream. Does not apply to tea. I thought it was only for women that these studies had been done, so men, decide for yourself at this stage.
6. Fish! oily - three times a week. I don't believe in capsules and many recommendations for such supplements are not well founded in research.
7. Eat a colorful diet full of white, green, red, orange, and yellow vegetables.
8. Walk. Well documented
9. Don’t Smoke. (VERY WELL DOCUMENTED)
10. One glass of wine, sherry, beer, bourbon, etc. a day has been shown to be very helpful to the heart. Now we know it also is very, very helpful for the brain.
11. Be social - join groups
12. Relax
13. Finish what you start. ( This seems a new one)
Personally I can't see myself swallowing tablespoons of curry or tomato sauce, curry once or twice a week I can tolerate, and I prefer real tomatoes.
Mind you I'd be hard pressed to eat everything that is recommended, let alone like it, and this one leaves out dark chocolate, so I stick to 'normal' as much as possible and try to include more of any fresh foods that I don't normally have, but it does become all rather tedious. Fortunately I love fruit and cook simply and like fish, but things can become rather repetitive at times.
I love to laugh out loud so I feel very happy whenever I capture something really funny on the TV. Unfortunately there are not very many of these programs, there's more sex and violence and 'relationships' probably laughable within themselves but the Vicar of Dibley, does it for me.
And sometimes I get a good laugh here on Orble, mostly give the serious stuff a flick, bores me to sobs. Much as I do, I suspect, but at least I give you a 'sometimes' laughable image.
Laugh a lot and don't worry about the strange looks you get while you laugh out loud when taking a walk with your bottle of tomato sauce, or your hot mustard snack.

I'm a great fan of The Vicar of Dibley too, and luckily, I love to watch it with fantastically funny friends, with a sensational curry and a glass of wine.
