Brain research to unlock dementia
September 27th 2010 20:39
A major research project has begun in Brisbane which could unlock a cure for brain disorders like ADHD and dementia.
It will study a most curious creature, Fruit flies, in a new multimillion dollar laboratory opened Monday at the University of Queensland.
Scientists believe the brain of the fruit fly is quite similar to that of humans.
They are confident the research will allow science to slow down and reverse the effects of dementia.
By the middle of this century, it is expected there will be 1.3 million Australians and 60 million Chinese with dementia.
