10 Myths about our cognitive abilities.
November 2nd 2007 04:38
From Sharp brains (linked above) comes the debunking of myths about cognitive fitness. These have all been debunked. So do consider these things if you think that cognitive decline begins only when you're older.
Sharp brains have drawn on the leading brain health and fitness scientists and practitioners worldwide to learn about their research and thoughts.
They are working on ways to assess and train our brains, harnessing the growing research about neurogenesis (the creation of new neurons), neuroplasticity (the ability of the brain to rewire itself through experience), cognitive training and emotional regulation.
Isn't this what I have been telling you?
So here are the myths and if you'd like to learn how they are being debunked do use the link.
Myth 1: It’s all in our genes.
Myth 2: The field of Cognitive/ Brain Fitness is too new to be credible.
Myth 3: Medication is and will remain the only evidence-based intervention for a number of brain-related problems.
Myth 4: We need to buy very expensive stuff to improve our brains.
Myth 5: Schools should just focus on basic skills like Reading and Math.
Myth 6: Crossword puzzles, or our daily job activities, are the best way to keep one’s mind sharp.
Myth 7: Videogames are always a waste of time.
Myth 8: This means kids will spend more time playing videogames.
Myth 9: Brain exercise is only for seniors. And, only about memory.
Myth 10: This all sounds too soft to be of real value to managers and professionals.
So you can throw away all those old fashioned views and begin again, right here.
It's your brain and it's up to you.
