Brain Gain with weekend fun!

Brain gain with weekend fun
Signature Tune

Well, at least on the weekend you should have some time, and if you don't, a little thought while you're on the run should be able to yield some behaviour changes that will result in some new neural sprouting, other than what you achieve by repetitious activities with not much variety or thought required.

Now is the time for some exercise - doing it, not watching it. If you're not in the position to do some organized sport, walking will do well and leaving the car in the garage while you walk is a good thing.

Of course you can swim or do some housework or gardening. Top marks for all of those things.

How about cooking some healthy food, if you want some hints have a look at my posts, focus on Japan, as the Japanese are famed for their longevity.

Visiting your local zoo should involve you in a lot of walking and some pleasurable experiences too.

If not, a local park will do nicely but keep on your feet.

Now, here's the chance for some sleep which will refresh the memory and enable the brain to get its thoughts in order.

So with exercise, sleep and the correct food we are up and away.

Before you do any of this start your day by cleaning your teeth with your alternative hand.

It's manageable but the harder you find it, the more you should do it.

Need to make a few notes? try your opposite hand. Don't struggle so much as to destroy your weekend but just have a go.

If you've got some shopping to do, try a different route or even a different shop or if you can't do that at least go around the shopping centre back to front to what you normally do.

Use the remote control on your TV with the other hand.

Try some new methods of communication with your kids, partner, relative and friends.

Watch their reactions.

If you must use the keyboard try your other hand and just use that to pick out the letters rather than do your typing automatically.

Read something that you don't usually read.

Have some fun with computer games and sus out a little variety,

I tried this last weekend.

I played a couple of computer games and tried with one to up my speed and my score. It was hard.

I did some concentration games, you can find them free on the web.

I also did some kids maths with fractions. I sweated, Not because I couldn't handle fractions but because I had great trouble doing them in my head and conforming to the current methods being promoted.

Next I did some Pytahagorean puzzles, first one OK , I was a star, second, I tried and tried and tried and fretted and puzzled, at last I got it right and the computer congratulated me for my creative response, which to me meant the easier method I had missed. I'll not be trying that one again in a hurry but I feel sure it helped the neural sprouting no end.

You can even teach yourself the drums, guitar and violin and piano on the internet, some with kids games others more serious but it's fun and working out what to do is half the battle.

Well, I'll leave you with your weekend activities but do try these things from time to time and invent a few others. It's good for your brain, your mind, your present and future.

Have a good weekend and do let us know how you fared, won't you?
