It's official - Journal of AMA - Brain exercises improve cognitive function.

August 9th 2007 00:21
Brain exercises
Signature Tune

The subjects of the AMA study were American senior citizens undergoing cognitive skills therapy, but Dr. Gibson asserts that analyses performed on children seeking the same type of therapy at LearningRx brain training centers indicate the same results; brain function can improve with appropriate brain training.

The press release goes on to say:

"Weak cognitive skills are the cause of 80% of learning problems. They include the skills we all need to read and learn---working and long-term memory, auditory and visual processing and attention skills, among others."

The link to the site is next to the title of this post, and interestingly enough, you'll see a collection of small images that change as you look at them.

With some you'll be familiar, the others are quite new.

So, for all ages, brain exercise is the way to go.

Let me know how you think about all of this!

I wish I had the time! Or the memory to remind me to exercise my brain.....I barely can manage a crossword these days!
Im going to set myself 'analysis exercises' on art and poetry, using test questions from high school.
In the meantime, I may be dumb, but Im brawny. I can knock you up a 5 acre fence in a day - would you like barbed, smooth or electric wire?

I think you do well on both fronts, Kleo, brains and brawn.

And who said knocking up a fence doesn't require any cognitive skills?

Great response, great to see you planning just a little cognitive improvement. it's variety and a certain amount of difficulty that is required, not just the crosswords, never do them myself, as you say, not enough time [nor inclination] I hate repetitious activities. But not to deter those who do do them.

Variety, after all, is the spice of life. Of course, you could have a go at some of my brain puzzles, how little/much time you spend is optional and they're handy when you're getting into your blogging.

See you soon, katyzzz

Katyzz,

This was an interesting read and I liked the 'hunt and find' for your link, to it.

Lilla,

This is the new way Jon has arranged things, I do hope it was not too hard, I still use the other option at times. It's right there next to the title. I have been telling people this but I guess people come in at various times.

It wasn't meant to be a brain exercise but if it turned out that way all to the good, cruel woman that I am. Unless of course you meant within the article itself, yes the first page did require a certain click but it was worth while having the exposure to the optical illusions.

If you didn't have time to-day look at them another day, it can take a little time for the images to change other times it's instant.

I do miss you buzzzzzzing around, you were one of my most creative people. Yes, looking up I did refer to the initial link, but thought others would work out the connection, it was not very clear and I wondered about it the first time I saw it.

You sound a little more relaxed, keep it up, if you can.

katyzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
