A window on the Brain.

"I think, therefore I am." That was the philosopher Rene Descartes' famous dictum regarding human existence.
The core of our feelings rests in our brains, where the abstraction of consciousness takes place.
There is a new tool for brain research which could lead us beyond the current scope of our imagination. This will open up new possibilities.
Unlike what was previously thought adult mammalian brains are capable of generating new neurons.
But we could not see them.
Now, Mirjana Maletic-Savatic of Stony Brook University in New York state, have a new tool for examining this neurogenesis.
The brain's hippocampus appears to be the place where progenitor cells produce new neurons indicated by a distinct peak on the nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum at 1.28 parts per million.
A mathematical algorithm was designed which enhanced the peak
It seems we now have a biomarker for new nerve cell generation.
This means that without microscopes and telescopes we can now see this effect through NMR techniques.
The world of knowledge is opening new windows of understanding.
This article has been inspired by and loosely based on an article by Robert M. Thorson in Courant.com and his work is thus acknowledged.
Keeping YOU up to date about YOUR Brain.
