Blueberries 'reverse' memory loss.

Blueberries reverse memory loss
Signature Tune

From: BBC news

Scientists claim blueberries activate learning and memory in the brain.

Eating blueberries can reverse memory loss and may have implications in the treatment of diseases like Alzheimer’s, University of Reading scientists claim.

I am already a regular consumer of fresh fruit but if blueberries can revive my brain’s memory banks then I must add to to the weekly shopping list. I hope I remember …….

I tend to consider the 'in season' fruit. Cranberries may be an alternative during blueberry out-of-season. Just a thought.

Yes, signals, cranberries are excellent, but this particular study mentions only blueberries, but no doubt some debate could be raised.

Blueberries are expensive here in Australia and I never see any cranberries here in the shops although there are some juices, but blueberries seem to be available throughout the year, sometimes they become a little cheaper.

I'm always open to challenge, never hesitate, but mostly I quote from sources although the trends are apparent.

Nice to see you.

Katyzzz,

I should tell my grandmother that. She loves blueberries.

So do I, actually. Come to think of it, I think everyone in my family loves blueberries.

Nice picture, by the way.

katyzzz,

I'll bet that means that blueberries are going to be even more expensive now. I'm willing to bet that there are native Australian berries that can rival the blueberry.

All I'm saying is that there could be alternative in-season berries available in your area.

But I am not trying to deny the blueberry its health benefits overall, because it is loaded with antioxydins.

peace!

Hey katyzzz that's good news to hear, my propriety has many wild blue berry brushes on it, I love to eat them, but picking is a little slow.

I would love to eat more blueberries, but I keep forgetting to.

On a serious note, I also hear blueberries can slow down the ageing process.

My favourite berries are strawberries. They're cheaper than most other berries at the supermarket.

Awesome - I shall buy a kilo today. LOL
I love blueberries but it is a shame they are so expensive. One way to get your intake is in a Boost Juice (or similar) - they have lots of smoothies and juices with blueberries in them and the prices never alter on the juices.
I also enquired recently if frozen fruit and vegetables lose any of their goodness and they do not. At a local frozen food wholesaler that opens to the public you can buy 1kg of frozen blueberries or any berries for $9-. This is so cheap it's ridiculous and I keep them in the freezer and throw a handful in a milkshake every few days. I also make my own jams and raspberry and blueberry jams are amongst my faves with Mango jams being my most popular.
But after destroying half my brain during my youth more blueberries are on the menu from now on.
Thanks for the info!

Signals, irrespective of the value of all berries, and that goes without saying, the blueberry has been shown, in this particular study, to be able to reverse the damage caused to the brain by those plaques and tangles, characteristic of Alzheimer's.

Other studies would need to be done to check out the other berries from this point of you.

All berries are good for the brain, but hitherto reversal was seen to be impossible.

Just keep eating those berries for your brain - all of them.

Lester, your property sounds great and I sympathise about the picking and maybe that is why they are so dear.

When I was growing up we had masses of strawberry plants until mum insisted dad dig them up as she said no-one would help her pick them.

We had huge piles on our plates.

I just wished she'd allowed a few plants to stay, and our dog just loved picking them and eating them as he went.

She should have INSISTED we all rally a little more.

Linh, funny about that forgetting isn't it, but all berries are good for the brain, I have strawberries most nights with a smaller helping of blueberries and yoghurt.

It was great to see you and I love a little humour, we could do with more of it.

It's a fairly common joke around my blog, but I love the jokes.

Wilson, try the blueberries on their own, the jam would not give you enough and the sugar is not the best, nevertheless a little won't hurt you, unless you're diabetic. I think you may have mentioned that.

Jason, what a wonderful reply, and so comprehensive, and the info about frozen blueberries was great, especially the price for the bulk purchase, and you're right in saying they do not lose nutrition by being frozen.

Sorry to hear about your mis-spent youth but you seem to be doing very well now.
