China - increasing the odds - aren't they delightful

Lacy breakers lap the coral reef that rings Bora-Bora, an ancient sunken volcano 165 miles (266 kilometers) northwest of Tahiti in French Polynesia's Society Islands.

Surrounded by sugar-white beaches, an electric-blue lagoon, and some of the clearest water on the planet, Bora-Bora is home to hundreds of species of tropical fish.

Not surprisingly, it's one of the world's top spots for divers.

THE BRAIN

Here is a little something from my day to see what I have done that is a little unusual to help my brain.

I needed to pick up a script, after going to the bank, then pay a bill at the post office. I had to find this post office as the other branch had closed. There was a queue, I complained to one customer in a load voice, he was hesitant in his response, but the lady behind me picked up on it and I was in business so then I noticed a woman a few feet up nodding in agreement and another one pointing at the queue behind. Keeping my voice loud I said the other branch was very quick and we all decided it was a pity it had closed. I sympathised with the staff and stated in a loud voice again that I believed in complaining in a loud voice as someone might actually hear me. I then said if you say nothing you can be sure no-one will hear you. In my interchanges I managed to find out where the posting boxes were, it was one of those centres which didn't make much sense at all, so that was something useful I learned, I looked for it on the way out and found it hidden around the corner. l then had to find my way via a circuitous route to Woolworths, thus learning a different pattern of the way to that shop.

I picked up some strawberries, which are cheap but not wonderful at the moment and thought I'd check out the blueberries. I had rejected them on Saturday as the price had gone to $7, a $2 increase on the week before. But to-day they were down to $3, I couldn't believe my luck. So, I found new ways, did new things, had some social interaction, expressed my feelings, bought nutritious food for the brain and carried my shopping and walked. All of these things have been recommended for brain health.

The following is an extract from the star on line, Malaysia

Boost your memory. I've put the link on top for you.

THE DOCTOR SAYS
By DR MILTON LUM

There are ways to improve the retention, storage and recall of information.

WHEN I was a medical student, my colleagues and I were inundated with a vast amount of information. We used various memory aids (mnemonics, which is derived from the Greek goddess of memory, Mnemosyne, who was reputed to know everything that is past, present and future). The more vivid the mnemonic, the easier the recall.

Ingredients of memory

Memory requires the logical organisation of information, which is a science. But it is also an art because the information perceived by our senses can be remembered better by using various techniques. The ingredients of memory enhance the brain’s network of linkages, thereby making for a more efficient retention, storage and recall.

There are three main ingredients, viz:

# imagination – the conversion of new information into images that can be stored;

# association – the linking of these images to what is already known;

# location – the anchoring of these associations.

TECHNOLOGY

Here's a nice little gadget for you, brought to us compliments of NerdGrind, and it's environmentally friendly.

Gadget for growing herbs in your kitchen
Hydrosphere

And here is the link to a wonderful and fast video on how it is made. Set to music. You'll love it, I did. You can also grow small fruits and vegetables in it and it is solar powered.

Hi Katyzzz

For some reason I can`t open those videos but the photo of the reef is really beautiful. I`d love to go to all the islands.

Seems you had an interesting day - bargain on the blueberries too!

Ash, I actually had a flat out day. Still have washing up in the sink. But the blueberries were a good buy.

I checked the video, it is fine, trouble is the link appears below the ads so is really hard to find, I clicked the red, got in to modify to see what I'd done, was getting ready to modify and recreate the link but couldn't see anything wrong.

I looked again, hidden, but it was there, a bit tricky that one.

But if you were successful in getting the link the video works perfectly and is clear from the start which is a big relief.

I still haven't resolved the other problem which leaves me wondering, but it didn't cost me any sleep, fortunately.

I'm on the run again today. See you as soon as I get a chance.

Nina, I think the hydrosphere is great, and do drink water from the tap if you're thirsty or maybe a cup of tea, preferably green, but if you're like me you'll mostly stick to the black, I have mine with a little full cream milk, no sugar.
