Greco, El (1541-1614). Cretan-born painter, sculptor, and architect who settled in Spain and is regarded as the first great genius of the Spanish School. He was known as El Greco (the Greek). He always signed in his true Greek name in Greek characters.

Little is known of his youth, and only a few works survive by him in the Byzantine tradition.

Referred to in documents as a Master Painter, he was described as a pupil of Titan but it was Tintoretto, a Venetian who had the most influence on him.

Several of his paintings have been prominent in any references made to him. The association is quite distinctive.

Thanks for that, Katyzzz.

You weren't kidding about 'Toledo'. It would be a tragedy if it wasn't recognized! What I like most is the sky, the clouds. Is it an approaching storm?

In all honesty, even though it may seem contrary to others, rain-storms are comforting to me. Hearing the rain fall as it hits the ground or the roof of the house.

So, Katyzzz, what does it seem to you? A storm, sunrise, sunset, or a momentary lapse before the sun comes out?

I adore El Greco...I like his huge conehead, it's like a bald, exaggerated version of mine!
