An APPLE a day, really DOES keep the Doctor away.
October 1st 2007 23:25
According to researchers eating an apple a day may help pregnant women prevent asthma and wheezing in their children.
Children of women who ate apples regularly while pregnant were much less likely to suffer from asthma or wheezing by age 5 than those whose mothers rarely ate apples during pregnancy.
Childhood asthma is a growing problem.
It was also shown that drinking apple juice made from concentrate and eating one or more bananas a day was associated with improved wheezing occurrences.
Apples have a high phytochemical content including flavonoids.
Apple juice may boost memory
An apple (or two) a day may also assist in keep Alzheimer's away and fight the effects of aging on the brain and memory loss.
Drinking apple juice may improve memory by preventing the decline of an essential neurotransmitter known as acetylcholine.
Neurotransmitters are chemicals released by nerve cells to transmit messages to other nerve cells. They are critical for good memory and brain health.
Antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, such as blueberries, spinach, and strawberries, can help slow age-related mental decline better than using dietary supplements.
The studies were conducted at Utrecht University in the Netherlands and reported in the Tehran Times.
The expression "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" was around when I was a child, but I don't particularly remember using it for my children who were encouraged to eat fruit in general.
There are even more interesting studies to come as the food we consume is being spotlighted more and more to help us maintain health.

Now, Louie, all you have to do is eat some. The apples silly, what else.
Oh, Louie, I'm sorry I called you silly, oh dear, tears, floods, apparently according to someone around here I post too much. He should talk, or maybe shouldn't, not to involve you, of course.
Lovely to see you and have a little joke.

Childhood asthma is alarmingly high and on the increase, so anything that may help prevent this terrible condition is worth a try! I also heard that green apples help to quell morning sickness in pregnant women.
Interesting post.

But my mother always gave us grated apple if we'd been vomiting.
It's a pity all of those ideas are still not around.
Yes, childhood Asthma is very much on the increase, and probably simple things will provide the answers, it's good to see them working along those lines now.
