Just lies, elections are coming up and either the terrorists or the british government want the same government to be re-elected.

The fact all this stuff seems to happen around election times is telling enough that something is amiss with whats going on.

I'm sorry Ahmed, I do not agree with you and not because you are a Muslim.

Al Qaeda is something far removed from normal Muslim activity.

Are you suggesting the terrorist activities were election inspired too?

This is a very dangerous situation and does spread to Australia.

katyzzz...but I appreciate your making a comment.

Katyzzz, thirty to forty years ago the fear was that communists were invading, it took a terribel blundering war in Vietnam to halt the stupid unjustified paranoia against 'the reds'.

What we have here is fear being used as a political tool to control the masses. The threat itself is next to non-existant however it works.

For instance, every year severel hundred times more people die in road related deaths than by terrorist attacks, every 29 days there are as many deaths on the road as there were during 9/11.

Yet if we try to lower the speed limits people get angry, if we try to fine them higher they get angry, why? Because it doesn't scare them. Why do terrorist attacks scare them when they are next to non-existant? Because the government wants it to be that way, it makes it easier to control people when someone says 'this dude over int he middle east wants to kill you'. There is no citation recquired because it is from the CIA (for instance), no visible statistic needs to be presented because it is not something that can be questioned objectively, after all.

So the vicious cycle repeats. In fact a lot of the political tactics being employed by todays world powers is no different than in the past, when communists were the bad guys, and before that with hitler, who did the exact same thing, enacted laws using fear, scaring people of communists, and to put more specifically, jewish communists, so that people allow himt o pass his freedom stealing laws. What we have today is the same political climate we had during the 1930s in hitlers germany, or 1960s soviet russia.

The question isn't one about religion, Al-Qaida is a political movement, not religous, it just bares religous over tones to further its own agenda, like Hitler used God, like George Bush uses god, they're just excuses to further political agendas, no more, no less.

Hi katyzzz,

Wow this drawing resonates with war drum like qualities.

Asian friends had their house paint black and red, and consider these to be lucky colors in their culture, and so do the Tlingit and Haida people here in Juneau.

Jihad needs to have a new definition attached to it, one that does not condone the killing of innocents because they aren't Muslim; let the power and strength of jihad be based upon the merit of a Muslin argument to win over the hearts and minds of those they seek to persuade into converting.

I could not be persuaded to Islam because of Mohammed's revelations of convenience.

However, Islam can re-invent itself. Christianity and Judaism in it's various forms had to do so, as did most other major religions of the world.

Converting by the sword is not unique to Islam. But it is a failed practice. Christ or die is no more appealing to me than is the Mohammed or die argument.

The good doctors are criminals and should pay the price for their actions.

Raven,

You are very well informed and far more knowledgeable than I in these areas and I really appreciate the time and effort and the incidentals you have put in and provided here.

Ahmed,

I really appreciate your views too.

But I still think the reality is there and without action there would be statistics way above any road toll and in fact add to the road toll, do not replace it.

However, I do understand your feelings about politics and hidden agendas but feel you have discounted the effects of the War in Vietnam and parallels with Hitler are, in my view unsustainable.

I wish that life were so simple, if still wrong, but I don't think it is as lucid as you would claim it.

But, I am very much impressed by the fact that you have views and are prepared to air them in the public arena.

And at the end of the day how will we ever know which is the right approach to settling all of this, if any.

Hi Katyzzz

I must admit I for one am not liking the way the world is going. I don`t care what tactics anyone has in play at the end of the day innocent people are losing their lives and you can get caught up in it no matter where you are... when I heard that guy was arrested in Brisbane my blood froze.

I know a while ago a report was released saying that the Gold Coast was the most likely place for an attack in Australia. We are reaching a point where we are going to be afraid to walk out the door. I know when I was flying home last year from England a week after that terrorist plot was foiled with the liquid substances every time I saw someone go into the toilet on the plane I would be wondering... why are they in there so long? what are they doing? should I panic?

To me that was perfectly justifiable because I was in that plane, the threat was a reality and anything was possible. Now every time we go in to see the Doctor are we going to be wondering what motives they have? Are you getting fair treatment? Are they overlooking your condition?

Overreacting? Sucked in? Isn`t that what people say - it could never happen to me? Just before it does...
